Welcome to the Saint Vincent Hospital Advanced Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center. We are dedicated to preventing loss of limbs, healing hard-to-heal wounds, and providing treatment for the optimum outcome for our patients. If you or a family member has a wound that is not healing as it should, we invite you to our center for evaluation.

A wound may not heal properly due to complications by conditions such as diabetes, circulatory problems or prior radiation treatment. Sometimes a minor wound can become a bigger problem, due to such causes as infection, pressure or trauma. Non-healing wounds can have serious health consequences.

Types of Wounds Treated

As a comprehensive wound healing center, we treat a wide variety of hard-to-heal wounds including:

• Diabetic foot ulcers
• Venous ulcers
• Chronic refractory osteomyelitis
• Pressure ulcers
• Non-healing, post-operative surgical wounds
• Arterial/ischemic ulcers
• Late effects of radiation therapy, bony and soft tissue.

Components of a Comprehensive Wound Healing Center

The Comprehensive Wound Healing Center at Saint Vincent Hospital Advanced Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center provides care for patients with non-healing wounds in one location. The outpatient center uses some of the latest techniques and procedures to aid in healing.

Our Multidisciplinary Wound Care Specialists

Our wound healing center has a multidisciplinary team of physicians and nurses who will customize the most effective treatment plan to stimulate healing.

Wound Care Treatment Plans

Our approach to wound care is aggressive and comprehensive, using both traditional and advanced therapies and techniques to reduce rate and healing time.

Since non-healing wounds can have more than one cause, treatment begins with a thorough evaluation and diagnostic testing to determine the underlying causes, after which a treatment plan is developed. Medicare/Medicaid, HMOs and other private insurances cover most treatment plans. Depending on the type of wound, the treatment plan may include:

• Infection control
• Restoration of blood flow
• Debridement (removal of dead tissue)
• Offloading
• Skin substitutes
• Compression therapy
• Foot reconstruction
• Skin graft or flap
• Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO)

Course of Treatment for Wound Care Patients

Your course of treatment depends on what type of wound you have. During your first visit, our staff will evaluate your wound and review your medical history. You may also need special tests that give us information about circulation and infection. This will help to determine what course of treatment you will need.

The wound care physician will prescribe a treatment plan, after which you will visit the wound healing center weekly for specialized treatments and documentation of your healing progress. Keeping appointments and following directions are critical to attaining a positive healing outcome. Some things you can do to assist with your healing:

• Care for your wound at home as directed by the wound care team
• Take medications as directed
• Return for your follow-up appointments
• Keep regular appointments with your primary care physician while you are receiving wound care treatment
