Robotic Surgery

Minimally Invasive Precision

When you need surgery, consider the benefits that minimally invasive procedures offer. At Saint Vincent Hospital, you can find robotic surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System. Saint Vincent Hospital was an early adopter of the daVinci technology. The first robotic surgery was performed here in 2006.

da Vinci® Robotic Surgery at Saint Vincent Hospital

Saint Vincent Hospital offers the da Vinci® surgical system for complex and delicate robotic-assisted procedures. This minimally-invasive option is performed through very small incisions with incredible precision. The system can be used across a spectrum of surgical procedures, including multiquadrant surgeries.

With da Vinci®, surgeons use a control module to guide the robotic arms, which assists in performing the procedure. The surgery is directed entirely by the surgeon. They leverage the da Vinci® surgical system’s technology to its full potential, providing patients with precise care.

What Is the da Vinci® Surgical System?

The da Vinci® surgical system has three components: the surgeon console, patient cart and the vision cart. During the procedure, the surgeon sits at the console to maneuver the instruments during the surgery. These tiny instruments move like the human hand, but steadier and with a greater range of motion. Meanwhile, the patient cart is placed at the patient’s bedside to secure the instruments, which the surgeon controls through the console. The surgeon views the 3D image of the surgical area via the vision cart.

What Are the Benefits of the da Vinci Xi®?

The benefits of robotic-assisted surgery, using the da Vinci Xi® may include:
  • Less pain
  • Less bleeding
  • Fewer complications
  • Faster recovery times
