Saint Vincent Hospital Celebrates World Brain Day - July 22
Jul 19, 2024Worcester, Mass. — Established by the World Federation of Neurology in 2014, this Monday, July 22 is the 10th annual World Brain Day. The goal of the observance day is to raise critical awareness to prevent brain disease in all corners of the globe.
The brain is one of the most fascinating organs in the human body. It houses all your memories, it’s where your personality spouts from, and is responsible for every movement, thought and decision. When you experience an issue such as a stroke, head injury or a central nervous system disease, your whole being can be jeopardized.
Saint Vincent Hospital provides advanced, compassionate care for patients affected by strokes or conditions like multiple sclerosis and plans customized treatment solutions for those with long-term health conditions.
Strokes are one of the more commonly known neurological ailments throughout the world, and Gary Keilson, MD, Chief of Neurology at Saint Vincent Hospital, says there are several proactive steps people can take to help prevent them.
“Many strokes can be prevented through healthy lifestyle changes and working with your health care team to control conditions that raise your risk for stroke,” Dr. Keilson says. “Those lifestyle choices include limiting alcohol, completely eliminating smoking, adopting a healthy diet and getting regular, rigorous exercise.”
