Saint Vincent Hospital is One of America's Greatest Workplaces for Women 2023

Feb 22, 2023

As a society, we have made great strides in promoting gender equality and breaking down gender barriers. I doubt that I would be in this role if women at Newsweek in the '70s hadn't sued—twice—to ensure they were offered the same opportunities as men. But women still face unique challenges in the workplace. These challenges can range from unequal pay and a lack of representation in leadership positions, to discrimination and sexual harassment.

One of the most persistent challenges is the wage gap. This disparity is even greater for women of color, who face a double burden of race and gender discrimination. Additionally, women are underrepresented in many industries, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, where they make up only a small percentage of employees.

Raising awareness of inequities in the workplace is the first step toward rectifying them. And it's equally important to highlight those companies that are leading the way. For those reasons, Newsweek and data firm Plant-A Insights Group are proud to introduce our ranking of America's Best Workplaces for Women 2023. These are the 600 large American public companies that, according to our research, including the results of a survey of more 37,000 female employees, ranked the highest on criteria like "compensation and benefits," "work-life balance" and "proactive management of a diverse workforce." We hope you find it informative and useful.
