Apurva Shah, MD Named Chief of OBGYN and Pediatrics at Saint Vincent Hospital

WORCESTER, Mass. – Saint Vincent Hospital appoints Apurva Shah, MD, as its new Chief of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatrics. As an OB/GYN, Dr. Shah cares for women of all ages. He specializes in surgical procedures utilizing robotic technology for both cancerous and non-cancerous conditions. In his new role, he will oversee day-to-day clinical functions of the department and organize protocols and policies to improve quality and safety for all OBGYN patients and newborns.

As a young boy in India, Dr. Shah was surrounded by doctors in his family. He witnessed his first birth at the age of 12, which he found to be an incredible experience. “Even today, every birth I witness is equally amazing as that first one was,” said Dr. Shah. “I’m thrilled to lead the OBGYN team at Saint Vincent Hospital to help provide high quality, safe care for women and infants in our community.”
Dr. Shah earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Grant Government Medical College and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals in Mumbai, India. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Newark Beth Israel Medical School, New York followed by an academic fellowship at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. Most recently, Dr. Shah has attended a minimally invasive pelvic surgery fellowship at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA while simultaneously working as a clinical instructor at Tufts University’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Shah holds certification in Artificial Intelligence (AI) medicine. He is also a North American Menopause Society (NAMS) Certified Menopause Practitioner (NCMP) and a medical advisor for a health technology company.
In addition to fluency in English, Dr. Shah speaks several languages including Gujarati, Hindi, and Marathi, while also understanding spoken Urdu and Punjabi.
