Susan V. George, MD, MACP, SFHM, FRCP

Program Director

Dr. Susan V. George is Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Saint Vincent Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She is board certified in Internal Medicine.

She worked as a hospitalist for 17 years and was the medical director of the SVH hospitalist service for 10 years. She transitioned in 2017 to outpatient primary care. Her interests are in the area of patient safety. She has also served in a number of key administrative positions in her capacity as Director of the Performance Improvement Committee for the Department of Medicine. 

She has received several teaching recognitions locally and nationally, including the John J. McKeever Medical Educator award in 2006, the UMASS Medical School Community teacher award, the President’s Award (Physician of the Year) in 2009 and the Quality Pillar award in 2012. Dr George was named Top Ten Hospitalists by the American College of Physicians in 2010. She was recognized in 2016 with the YWCA Erskine Award for Women. She also served as the President of the Medical Staff at Saint Vincent Hospital 2016-2017.  Most recently she was invited to be the 228 th Orator of the Worcester District Medical Society in 2024.

She is a Master of the American College of Physicians and a Senior Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine.

Dr. George earned her medical degree from the National University of Singapore and is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London. She completed her residency training at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, MA and served as chief resident 1999-2001.
